The sensitization and club formation program, aimed to educate students about the importance of environmental conservation and equip them with skills to mitigate disaster risks. The initiative underscores the Assembly’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety, resilience, and environmental awareness among young people.
The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), in his address, emphasized the significance of instilling these values at an early age. “The future of our environment and the safety of our communities depend on how well we prepare the next generation. He added that, it is therefore important to sensitise the student on climate change and its effects and also the adaptation measures to deal with climate change. Mr Kpodo highlighted the need to sensitise and form Environmental and Disaster Risk Reduction Clubs (Climate Adaptation Clubs) in the schools. These clubs will serve as platforms for students to learn, share ideas, and take action toward protecting their surroundings,” he stated.
Participants were engaged in interactive sessions led by Mr. Isaac Antwi (Development Planning Officer), where they learned about about climate change and its adaptation measures. He presented on the definition, causes and effects of Climate Change as well as Climate Adaptation measures. The program also provided resources and materials to support the newly formed clubs in their activities. The Assembly provided and distributed 300 customized T-Shirt for the formation of the Climate Adaptation Club for the six (6) selected schools in the Municipality.
Each school was allowed to select a teacher as a patron and four executives namely, President, Vice President, Secretary and Organizer. These executives were elected from the student body.
