SWMA HOLDS WORKSHOP ON MULTIDIMENSIONAL POVERTY INDEX

The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly organized a one-day workshop on Monday June 24, 2024, focusing on the dissemination of Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) reports and training on the STATSBANK platform for selected Municipal Planning Coordinating Unit (MPCU) members.

The MPI is a non-monetary measure of deprivation that includes indicators across various dimensions such as living conditions, health, and employment. The workshop aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of these factors, helping policymakers address the multifaceted nature of poverty.

Mr. Jacob Andoh Oswald, the Western North Regional Statistician, emphasized the importance of the workshop in enhancing participants' knowledge of the MPI report. He noted that the report goes beyond traditional monetary measures of poverty to highlight other critical areas of deprivation. "The motive behind this workshop was to make policymakers aware of the poverty challenges in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality and across the country, identifying ways to address these challenges," Mr. Oswald stated.

The preparation and dissemination of the MPI reports were supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation, underscoring the international collaboration in tackling poverty

The workshop represents a significant step towards addressing poverty through informed and data-driven approaches, aligning with global efforts to overcome this universal issue.
